By Marc Thomas, Society Committee member

2022 is the 10 year anniversary since I nailed my colours to the Bath City mast. I had been going to Bath City since moving here almost 20 years ago. However, Bath City were my second team as I was a Cardiff City supporter at the time. Indeed, my first visit to Twerton Park was to see Cardiff play a pre-season friendly.

But my association with Cardiff City ended with Vincent Tan's decision to change the club's kit from blue to red and the badge from a bluebird to a dragon. I joined a movement protesting the change. However, there was much more support for Tan from the accepting ("It's worth it for a season in the 'Prem') to the openly hostile to any protest. I threw in the towel. I had a local club where I could walk to the ground, buy the ticket on the turnstiles, and stand where I liked in a friendly atmosphere.

I threw myself into the Big Bath City Bid as community ownership seemed like the perfect defence against what I'd seen at Cardiff. After the successful community takeover, I put a motion forward at an AGM that any change to the club's kit and badge has to be voted on by Supporters Society members. It is one of my proudest moments as a football supporter. This is why I am such an advocate of Supporters Society members having a say in the running of the club. I have seen what the alternative can be.

Bath City FC is your club. Join the Supporters Society, and you can help shape its future.

The Supporters Society is a football supporters trust: a democratic members' organisation that's dedicated to putting supporter democracy at the heart of the club's decisions. As the Club’s majority shareholder, we aim to be the vehicle through which a healthy, balanced and constructive relationship between the Club and its supporters and the communities it serves is encouraged and developed.

We do this by:
  • being the democratic and representative voice of the supporters of the club and strengthening the bonds between the club and the communities which it serves;
  • achieving the greatest possible supporter and community influence in the running and ownership of the club;
  • promoting responsible and constructive community engagement by present and future members of the communities served by the club and encouraging the club to do the same;
  • operating democratically, fairly, sustainably, transparently and with financial responsibility and encouraging the club to do the same;
  • being a positive, inclusive and representative organisation, open and accessible to all supporters of the club regardless of their age, income, ethnicity, gender, disability, sexuality or religious or moral belief.

The Society became Bath City FC's majority shareholder in 2017, after raising £365,000 by issuing community shares. This makes Bath City FC a community-owned club.

Membership of the Society is open to all. Join now and play your part in our club's future!

Pete McCormack, Vice-Chair, Bath City Supporters Society.

Bath City FC is one of some 40-odd fan/community-owned clubs in English football. The most senior are Exeter, Wimbledon and Newport County from the Football League, with Tonbridge and Chelmsford from our own league.

What binds us is that we are ordinary fans working together to safeguard the future of our Clubs. It’s a group to be proud of.

But it is a tough road as success often relies on funding.

At City, we have been able to develop a competitive Club through sheer hard work, fostering community support and commercial backing.

To progress we’ll need more and the Supporters Society, which is the principal shareholder in Bath City FC, aims to back the Board in this quest for success.

We are currently over 350 members strong, but the more people join us, the more we can help take the Club further.

From simply paying the £5 annual membership fee, to joining the Committee and volunteering for Club activities, there is a place for all.

We are a democratic organisation, so membership gives you a say in the direction of the Club.

If you’d like to be part of the movement visit www.bathcitysociety.org and follow the instructions to join.

You’ll be welcomed.

With you, we can hopefully take City to the next level.

Society Committee member Jon Blain explains City’s blue away kit

Away shirts don’t often evoke much remembrance or affection, being as they are the kit worn when you are not allowed to wear your normal colours. However, this version is special to the club due to the connection it has with Calcio Lecco 1912.

A bond of friendship has been formed between City fans and the tifosi of Lecco due to the Italians reaching out in 2017 to invite City fans over for a game between the two sets of supporters to take part in the 40th anniversary celebrations of Lecco’s Anglo-Italian Cup win. This game was played in Lecco, a city squeezed between Lake Como and the Italian Alps, on the 24th June 2017. The final result between the two fans was a credible 2-2 draw. Since 2017, both sets of fans have watched games at Twerton Park and the Stadio Rigamonti-Ceppi together.

City’s two appearances in the Anglo-Italian Cup final came during the most successful period of the club’s history in the late 70s, where, as well as two Anglo-Italian Cup adventures, the club won the Southern League, Southern League Cup and Somerset Cup.

To celebrate this friendship, which you may have seen commemorated in the flag on the Popular Side, the club is this season donning the Blucelesti (sky blue) colours of our Italian friends as an away shirt. Hopefully it will prove popular with fans and become a kit that is fondly remembered for both the friendship and a successful season.

Bath City FC is your club. Join the Supporters Society, and you can help shape its future.

The Supporters Society is open to all and we always welcome new members. You can join the Society for just £5 a year - just scan the QR code on this page.

Why join? The main reason is to have a real say and vote in the key issues affecting the club. The Society also welcomes fresh ideas from City fans from all backgrounds and walks of life.

Because the Society owns 54% of the club, we choose six of its nine directors (including the Chair). If you join the Society, you'll be able to vote for the Club's directors or even stand for election yourself. You can also help out on the Society Committee, representing the voice of members day-to-day.

The Society holds two meetings each year for members, as well as sending regular updates by email. You can suggest new policies for the Club that other members will debate and vote on. Recently members have voted on a 3G pitch, changes to the Club badge, and Bath City's strategy for the next three years.

We believe that all Bath City supporters can help the Club through their ideas and skills. We have around 350 members at the moment, but we'd like to have many more. The more members we have, the stronger our club will be.
