AGMs are an opportunity to:
- Come together as a community to reflect on the past year and look to the future
- Hear updates from and ask questions of the Society Committee & Club Board
- Propose, debate and vote on motions
- Stand for the Society Committee or Club Board yourself
We encourage you to attend the meeting, have your say, and play your part in the running of our Club. The full agenda will be sent out two weeks before the AGM, but in the meantime we’re looking for nominations for election to the Society Committee and the Club Board (including a new Chair) and invite you to propose motions for us to discuss on the night.
Here’s how to get involved.
Propose a motion for discussion
Your voice can make a real difference in shaping the Club’s future. In recent years, examples of AGM motions have included one to introduce a 3G pitch at Twerton Park, and to ensure that members have the final say on any changes to the cultural heritage of the club, such as badge, kit and name.
- If you have an idea for a change you’d like to see, but need guidance about submitting a motion - get in touch with us at [email protected] and we will help.
- All motions must be proposed and seconded by other Society members, and can be submitted by filling in the online form here by midnight on 30 May 2024.
Stand for the Society Committee
The Society is the Club’s majority shareholder: it’s what makes community ownership happen at Bath City FC. While the Club Board runs the Club, the Committee’s role is to:
- Represent the views of members and supporters to the Club Board;
- Work constructively with the Club Board to support and scrutinise its decisions and activities;
- Uphold the spirit of transparency, accountability, community benefit and supporter democracy.
It’s a bit like a school’s board of governors or the trustees at a charity: acting as a “critical friend” to the Club Board and offering suggestions, feedback and knowledge, and raising questions on behalf of owner-members and supporters. It’s an ideal position for someone with either good knowledge of the club or past committee experience (or both!).
There will be a guaranteed three “open” slots on the Committee, so we strongly encourage nominations.
Committee members serve for two years, taking part in monthly meetings in which they review the Club’s progress on and off the pitch. These are usually held on weekday evenings, and it is also possible to participate remotely via videoconference. Members typically commit an average of 5-8 hours a month to the role. All Committee members will receive induction and training.
We would encourage anyone interested to get in touch with the current Society Chair, Pete McCormack, for an informal chat to learn more ahead of submitting your nomination. You can do this by emailing [email protected]. This will be a chance to hear more about the expectations of sitting on the Committee, ask any questions you may have, and discuss what skills you could bring to the mix. Don’t worry, it will not be an interview!
- Anyone who is a member as of 1 May 2024 can nominate themselves (you do not need a proposer or seconder)
- You can read about the current committee here.
- To stand for the Committee, please fill in the online nomination form here by midnight on 30 May 2024. [NB If you have any trouble with any of the online forms linked in this email, please get in touch and we’ll arrange an alternative]
We are particularly keen to attract applications for:
- A Secretary. Our previous Secretary Paul Brotherton stepped down last year after several years of service, and we need someone with an eye for detail and good communication skills to keep the Committee on track. Paul left a detailed handover note, and a description for the role here.
- Applicants who are interested in taking on leadership positions in the future (e.g. Chair or Vice-Chair).
There's no pressure to take on either of these roles, though, anyone is welcome to step forward and do their bit. We welcome applications from all walks of life, and also encourage people who would add to the diversity of the Committee to come forward.
Stand for election to the Club Board:
Club Chair
We are inviting nominees for election as Chair of the Club Board. The Chair is an important role leading the Club in pursuit of the Club's strategy. This role is the public face of the Club.
The new Chair will serve until the 2027 Society AGM. The existing Chair, Nick Blofeld, has reached the end of a 6 year tenure, so we would strongly encourage nominations for this vital role.
We encourage all of those interested in standing to first read the Chair role description here
You can also arrange a chat to learn more about the role: please contact [email protected].
Applications for Club Chair can be made by submitting the online nomination form here by midnight on 30th May 2024.
Marketing Director
The Club has made great strides in promoting itself and we are now looking for a Marketing Director to carry this forward. This is another key role for the Club
The Marketing Director role description is here
Applications for Marketing Director can be made by submitting the online nomination form here by midnight on 30th May 2024.
Operations Director
We are also seeking an Operations Director to look after the Club’s estate. This involves an understanding of health and safety, maintenance and repair and leading match day stewarding. Please see the Operations Director role description here
Applications for Operations Director can be made by submitting the online nomination form here by midnight on 30th May 2024.
Please note that to run for election as Club Chair, Marketing Director or Operations Director:
- You must be a member of the Supporters Society at the time of nomination and have a proposer and seconder who must be Supporters Society members as at 1 May 2024.
- We strongly recommend that you contact us before submitting a nomination to find out more and for us to arrange for you to talk to one or more current Club Board members. You can do this by emailing [email protected].
- We welcome applications from all walks of life, and also encourage people who would add to the diversity of the Club Board to come forward.
Nominations for each of these will be considered by a small panel of Society Committee members to ensure that those standing have the requisite skills and experience. You may be invited to have a conversation with this panel to make sure that you understand the nature of the role and commitment.
The Chair, Marketing Director and Operations Director are all Club Board director positions. The Club Board oversees the day to day and long term strategic running of Bath City FC. Six of the nine Directors who make up the board are elected by the Supporters Society. Elected Club Board members are all volunteers who serve for three years. They are directly responsible for the running of the club, including commercial, marketing, redevelopment, operations, football, finance, community, supporter liaison and other aspects. The Club Board meets monthly, usually on weekday evenings, and members can join remotely via video call. For a flavour of what’s discussed in board meetings, see recent meeting minutes here. Directorship training is made available, and Club Board members are encouraged to access training and support throughout their tenure as required.
Finally, in being nominated for election, candidates are declaring that they meet the Society’s Rules and the Election and Appointments Policy which can be found here. More information about the Society can be found on our website but please do get in touch if you have any questions.
We look forward to seeing you at the AGM.
All the best and Up the City!
